“What fundamentally drives me is playing in the lab or the machine shop and working on interesting things. When I finished undergrad, that was my main deciding factor — I could take an engineering job, but I wouldn’t get to tinker every day. When I was thinking about what to do next, I was really looking for a place to tinker and play with ideas around metrology, measurement and machining.”

“From faculty and students to research and hands-on experience, CPM is different from any place I have worked before. Not every professor works on the same research, but they know what I’m doing and give me advice. It’s a really good environment for work.”

“Metrology is one of those things that people don’t appreciate enough. We just expect at this point that our phones and cars are going to fit together and function properly. As consumers, we’ve gotten comfortable with the fact that things work. But to achieve all of that, there’s measurements that have to happen. We couldn’t make all the technology we use if we didn’t have the ability to measure it.”

Tiffany Lemmons

Deputy Chief Engineer, Metrology and Calibration Program
NAVAIR Naval Air Systems Command

“Being a part of CPM was life changing for me. It most definitely made a positive impact on my career path and success. I started my career working for the Navy as a civilian in NAVAIR’s Metrology and Calibration Program. Now, thirteen years later, I am the Deputy Chief Engineer of that program and still love what I do. I know that my work matters because it contributes to ensuring the safety of people.”
